Los Angeles Times celebrated the resurgence of rum at the February 29th Spirits of the Times event held atHollywood’s La Descarga, one of the top rum bars in the country. In keeping with the theme of the evening, guests
also enjoyed authentic Cuban food served from No Jodas food truck parked just outside. Spirits writer Dan Dunn
acted as emcee for the evening and also mingled with guests, bestowing his vast knowledge of rum.
BEST COCKTAIL“Martinique Smuggler” (Rhum Clement)Ingredients: 1 ½ oz. Clément Première Canne rum ½ oz. Disaronno liqueur ¾ oz. Fresh grapefruit ¾ oz. Fresh lime ½ oz. Orgeat syrup Directions: Shaken and strained into a cocktail coupe and garnished with a grapefruit peel.

Ingredients:
2 oz Mount Gay Extra Old rum 4 oz Coconut water 0.5 oz Fresh squeezed lime juice Dash of angostura bitters Directions: Pour Mount Gay rum over ice in a tumbler glass. Top with fresh coconut water and lime juice to taste. Add 1 dash of bitters; stir and serve. Authentic Brugal Daiquiri (Brugal Blanco)
